SMPTE goes 3D

Tomorrow is the first meeting for SMPTE which is focused on issues related to 3D. Well I'm going. Dont' know what to do expect, but I promise to keep an open mind (my wife made me promise).

There is lots of excitement here in Hollywood towards 3D. I've already been involved in several productions and have been influential in the introduction of several new technologies and post production workflows. The most recent is Lionsgate "My Bloody Valentine 3-D." I've seen some of the edits and I think I might have to see it, or better put, I hope they invite me to the premiere.

Back to SMPTE. So all the 3D 3rd party dudes will be there trying to get endorisements or at least a nod or two from those that rule. I'll fill in the details on my next post. I am however, concerned that missing from the agenda are the efforts which have taken place in the EU. Maybe, I'm just too impatient, and close to things... I think this might be a good opportunity for SMPTE and the EU efforts to start working together.

Just think maybe we'll come up with a cool new way to distribute content, and possibly content in 3D...!?

...about time, but I bet that is what all the first timers say.
